Herb Spicer is a 52 year old baby boomer. But he is no ordinary 52 year old baby boomer. Herb is an elite Ironman triathlete. In 2007, Herb won the Half Ironman World Championship for his age group, setting a course record for his age group against top competition. He also placed first in his age group by approximately twenty minutes in three consecutive races, Eagleman (70.3), Buffalo Springs Lake (70.3), and Vineman (70.3), and finished ahead of many of the much younger, top professional triathletes, such as Desiree Ficker. In Herb's four Half Ironman races in 2007, he placed first in his age group in all four and set course records in at least three of the races. Not only is he fast, he is tough. At the 2007 Hawaii Ironman World Championships, Herb finished third in his age group just eleven days after suffering severe injuries in a bicycle accident.
